But God, I Trust You
Sometimes things happen that you simply cannot wrap your head around. You cannot understand the why, and the world just seems so unfair.
You have just come through one difficult season. You have fought, prayed, waited and finally overcome. You haven’t even had time to breathe, enjoy the moment or celebrate the victory before another challenge comes — another pain, another loss, another reason to ask:
“God, why?”
In moments like this, the only way I know how to cope is to go back to God.
Who am I to you?
As I poured out my heart to Him, one question was impressed upon my heart:
“Who am I to you?”
And my answer was simple:
You are my Abba Father.
My faithful God.
My covenant-keeping God.
I may not understand what You have allowed. I may have questions that remain unanswered. I may cry, lament and tell You that this hurts more than I know how to express.
But none of it changes who You are.
In this world you will have trouble
Jesus told us:
Holding on to what I know
And so, right now, I am choosing to hold on to what I know rather than what I understand.
I know my God loves me immensely.
I know He is faithful.
I know He is with me in my grief.
I know His strength will carry me when mine is gone.
I know that even when I cannot see what He is doing, He remains the same faithful and covenant-keeping God I have always known Him to be.
I am choosing to hold on to what I know rather than what I understand.
Faith does not mean there are no tears
Would I rather not go through this?
Absolutely.
Would I rather be celebrating the victory You have just given me instead of trying to understand another painful loss?
Yes, Lord.
I am not pretending that trusting God makes the pain disappear. Faith does not mean there are no tears. Trust does not mean there are no questions. And knowing God is faithful does not mean we will always understand His ways.
Sometimes faith simply means choosing to remain in His arms when nothing around us makes sense.
But God, I trust You
So even here — through the tears, the questions, the disappointment and the pain — my declaration remains:
But God, I trust You.
Not because I understand.
Not because this does not hurt.
Not because I have all the answers.
But because I know who You are.
You are my Abba Father.
You are faithful.
You are my covenant-keeping God.
And when I cannot understand Your hand, I will trust Your heart.
